We just released in January 2024 a new arrangement of his "Self Portrait" originally recorded with Steps Ahead as an instrumental with Michael Brecker on saxophone, now in a new version with lyrics and vocals by the unique Ursula Gerstbach and Paul Booth on saxophone. Available on all digital platforms
Modern Times Ensemble. is a truly unique global musical collaboration which features top artists from around the world: New York, Vienna, London, Pescara, Rome, Los Angeles, Hamburg, Rio de Janeiro, Denver, Sao Paulo, Lisbon, Manchester, Paris, Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
During the Covid-19 crisis, as the virus sadly spread throughout the countries knowing no geographical borders, so did the musicians' passion to create and collaborate beyond physical boundaries, lock-downs and travel restrictions. The project began in the Summer 2020, and soon after, many incredibly talented artists began to contribute exclusively via on-line collaboration.
Old friendships solidified and new friendships were born.
Today's technology allowed for improved levels of remote workflow and for an easier and sustainable creation process respecting and enhancing personal creativity and contribution. All efforts have been made to promote human interaction during all phases of the production. All recording sessions for all instruments and vocals have been performed remotely by each musician.
The producer and engineer limited the use of digital editing, therefore striving to capture each musician's performance and enhance it as part of the whole ensemble.
No samples or pre-recorded loops have been used. The goal has been to always achieve real-players / real-instruments session takes despite the, additional effort this practice requires.
This project would not have been possible without the passion and enthusiasm of Modern Times Ensemble.'s distinct roster of super-talented artists, my heartfelt thanks go out to all the musicians and collaborators.
